hi all how much can a discovery td5 2.5 pull with out struggling its a 51 plate milage 136.700 engine never misses a beat regular oil changers ive had it 2 years in october, just got a caravan 1200kg unloaded its 23ft tow bar to end of van we had 2 adults 3 kids 1 dog hes my mate lol. But it struggled when we we hit a hill could not keep up with caravans in front of us?? which look bigger vans than ours. I have taken it to LR services in oxton, Nottingham and he has checked through the computer and has fount no faults with the car. Any ideas?

i had a 99 disco td5 auto and when i towed a caravan i found i had to boot it a bit.
now have a defender td5 remaped and disco trnsfer box and pulls really well so maybe a remap is in order

he,s a westy used for fox hunting but ours is a settee dog,the car is auto should i use the 123 when pulling then put it in drive when up to speed??

Can't see why you are having too much trouble with that tow weight. My TD5 auto pulls Ifor Williams horse trailer 905kg with 2 horses weighing over 1000kg combined and had no problems, slight pull uphill but nothing it couldn't handle, being auto it would change up and maintain speed. Towing just my pony 500kg and her rice trailer 750kg and tows with ease.

I prefer manual for towing... found with towing all them caravans with auto's i was always fiddling with the gear change, D wasnt very good

as far as i no as it came from show room, i have had a egr fitted for fuel consumption if that makes any differance,???
