plugging it in will show faults.wont show engine full of crap from egr how are your turbo pipes are they in good nick not delaminated?

This ^^. Reckon you need to look further. Whether its auto/manual you shouldn't be having a big problem and being left behind up hills with that tow weight. ;)

i have spent a few pounds on this discovery on various parts sun roof repairs and loads of other stuff. i have 2 legs left arm and a bottom chin in it if you all no what i mean.but i do love it my misses says get rid,but i car,nt.so thats why i,m disapointed in it when pulling my caravan.

l r services a local land rover repairs have had a realey good luck around and found nothing a do. in facted he said i was expecting a bit to much from it, i thougt i was buying the ultimate pulling machine.I used to have a 94 deisel cavalier an old eldis caravan pull better than my discovery

Expecting too much??!! Tow weight is 3500kgs! Legally. Your tow weight is half that. I'd get a second opinion, honestly.

You have to remember that the Discovery is a bloody heavy vehicle, which combined with a 1200kg caravan gives a GTW of almost 3500 kg, or almost twice what your old Cavalier and eldis combination weighed. It may seem like a daft question, but what size tyres are you running?

yeah those old diesel cavi's had better 30 to 70 figures than a gsi cavi. With mine being an auto i have same prob as i used to have with 20ltr carlton at 60 it was between gears keep it over 65 no probs. Came back from tendy a few weeks ago pulling great from camarthen up the slope but on the next hill got stuck behind wagon really had to wind the old girl up to get passed hgv. I find clear run no prob but lose revs and its hard work getting them back on hills. Saying that its due a service think air filter has a lot of salisbury in it need to get rid of egr and haven't check turbo hoses. So can't complain

Sounds to me something isnt quite right with your td5. My 300 tdi disco i use to tow my VERY heavy flat bed with cars such as s-type merc's etc on it no problem, which weigh more than your caravan. I would get your egr valve blanked off as they are nothing but crap, then go from there.

yeah they say you need to work diesel box harder to get the power. There is a thread on here about changing td5 auto box for the v8 box as more responsive td5 alive do it to there
show landys. There was a thread on here about it with arguments about the diesel being to harsh on the v8 box.

don,t surpose you fancey swapping,LOL

Erm.....no lol! I'm sure it's something that can be sorted with yours, loads of info on here and VERY knowledgeable people. I just feel with what I tow there's something amiss with yours. Don't lose heart, they are fantastic vehicles (when they run right). Sort it and you won't look back ;)

so what i can see or what i have been reading from most of you who have one there prety **** at pulling but look the part, what can i say

Actually, most people have said very much the opposite. They are one of the best towing vehicles you can buy, in fact I don't know of any other 4x4 that can match the Discovery's towing capacity, apart from the Defender & Range Rover. The only downsides I found with the Disco, is that the wheelbase is a little on the short side, and the suspension is a little soft.
