had a breakdown yesterday on my DHSE and wanted to let everyone know as this might be something to look out for.
Basically, the power steering return hose back to the reservoir was rubbing against a pulley on the auxiliary belt. this quickly wore through and drained the power steering system. other than the hose i hope there is no damage done. there doesn't appear to be any guard on the belt/pulleys and nothing to hole the hose away from the moving parts.
anyone else had this problem?

Haven't had the problem but have noticed how close the hose is to the pulley in the past, will go out and check mine later on. Hope it's just a new hose you need and nothing else.

yes, hopefully just the hose. after the AA made a temporary repair i drove it ten miles to North East 4x4 (local specialist). i didnt notice any steering problems so hopefully it will be alright. might be a reasonably expensive hose though as the rubber upper bit was 'swaged' to an aluminium lower pipe!
