Hi everybody,:welcome2:

I have question about powerbox psi chip.
Is it possible to fit chip used on p38 diesel 1996 on same model but 2000 manufacture year? As i know powerboxes is divided to pre 99 and 2000 onward. is it different connectors or chip itself?

I believe the connectors are different, but also have a feeling that the pump maybe have been supplied by a different manufacturer.

I may be interest if you decide to sell the early powerbox.

I'm nearly sure that either will fit. The early boxes are analog and u have to cut into the map sensor hose as well as plugging it in. The later ones are digital with no Map sensor input

Thanks,

I have (had?) chance to buy this chip for funny money, so that is the reason i'm asking. But I think i will collect quids for later model :)

You know Easter, family meeting, family guy who knows everything better at least hundred times, thousands bright ideas what i can do with MY car .... He promised to send it, so now I'm waiting for delivery and will check what exactly it is and if it is, because after few days of talks, i'm already in doubt this chip exists and if i want to buy anything from him anymore :)

Anyway thanks for replies,

zzr1200 i will keep on mind yours

To the best of my knowledge, the pump never changed. The 99-on models have Bosch Electronics throughout and are supposed to be more reliable but the Diesel pump was always Bosch EDC so this never changed.
The newer digital powerboxes give a smoother/more efficient powere delivery but if an older one was coming my way for handy money I would bite their hand off.
Mine was fitted when I bought it but when I've taken it off as part of a fault finding exercise I found the RR almost undriveable in comparison. It will also pay for itself in a couple of tanks of diesel by improved mpg.

Just an update,
scratch my previous post, the ECU to control the pump changed from Bosch EDC to Bosch M5.2.1 ECM from 99MY on, so the connections may indeed be different. The best thing to do is go on the PSI Powerbox website and check it out, I've rang them in the past and they're quite helpful.
