After being under the impression (stupidly) that this mod had been done on my 2000my 1.8, a bit of routing around under the bonnet has confirm that it hasn´t  So I think I´ve probably been very lucky to hit 90,000 miles without a problem. However I don´t intend pushing my luck much further so will be doing the mod asap.

Hunting around on here and elsewhere it would appear that the hose kit I need is PCH001190. This is cream in colour and has a medium pressure spring and a thermostat which opens at 87 degrees. But with a bit more hunting around, I´ve found out that there´s also a hose kit with part number PEL500150. This kit is grey with a light spring and a thermostat which opens at 82 degrees.

Which would be better, bearing in mind that next year I´ll be taking the car with me when I move to Spain, and where we´re going it regularly hits 40+ degrees in the summer?

Seems logical to get the circulation going asap and also run as cool as possible so the 82deg stat would be best.

the 82oC tends to be used for diesels,

The PRT will only open at that temp, doesn't mean the coolant will be a steady 82, it will still run at 88-90ish

Pressure relief bypass works pretty much constantly on warm up
