I have been searching for some new UJ's for my disco 2 Td5, and have noticed a massive difference in price, from about £9.00 for an aftermarket part to almost £80.00 for a genuine LR part. Why is there such a huge difference.

This is really easy to answer:

1. Land Rover don't make U/j's but do sell the Original Manufacturer parts in an LR box, so obviously it's worth loads more money ;);)

2. Buy a real quality U/j part from someone like Lemforder, GKN, Hardy Spicer or similar. Must be brand-name not just sold as OEM.

As above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^, and when you do get one, grease it often, every few months at least, more with heavy off road use, and you will never need another one! ;)

On the subject of regular greasing of your U/Js; it's worth the time and trouble to find some slightly longer grease nipples than the ones which are normally provided. They will make greasing a whole lot easier in future.

You are right, they do help! :) And so does having a top quality grease gun, some of the cheapies are horrible to use :(
