1996/7 Land Rover Defender 90.
I have a problem with a front prop shaft.

It appears that the original fitment was a uj similar in size to the standard rear propshaft.

However the ones that are fitted are some 1/2inch bigger ( length of cruxiform)

The gearbox and differential fittings are the same as the rear end.

Any idea’s

Your help would be appreciated

Sorry, it is early , but I do not understand what you are meaning, especially in relation to the last sentence.

Measure the width , outside flat surface of one cup to the opposite side, measure the diameter of the cup as well.

Also, what is the problem? do you mean you want a replacement UJ? and need a part number?

Cheers

Maybe an aftermarket prop?

Pretty much all of the older land rover props are the same bolt pattern/size /pcd so if the length was riight a prop from a series 2 would fit a tdi model.

Sometimes its not worth fitting a u/j one case being if the sldiing section has any lift/play at all the prop is knackered, mind you it has to be pretty badly worn to cause any issues.

It does sound like someone may have fitted a series prop at some time.
Have a look at the spline cover, metal screw type is series, plastic push on defender.
