Prop shaft balancing weight?

Hi all

I've found a small square piece of curved metal under my 90 td5 that perfectly matches a weld on the rear prop shaft, and is similar to other pieces of metal on the front and rear shafts - could it be a balancing weight?

If so, will losing one cause a problem? Should I get it welded back on?
