They definitely drive better with a prop in my opinion

I expect you are right. It doesn’t seem right to have a 2wd 4wd but I have taken mine off as I have got to do the bearings and I may as well do the UJ’s at the same time. If the car decides to behave itself and work for a while with nothing else falling off or going wrong I will put it back on. Probably.

Iam in no rush to put it on would get me garage I use to put it on, as there popular would not be untill late december early January, we do live out in the "sticks" so to speak, also i had to buy the prop so I will have to try it out sometime

it will go on as i bought the prop but the garage I use are booking late december early January

Mine is going for it’s first MOT for about 3 years on Friday so I am going to see what needs doing before I do anything else. It’s been off the road for 2 and a half years so I have done what was obvious but who knows what problems it will develop this week while waiting…

Oh ye of little faith

If you already bought the used VCU, get the garage to check it before they install new bearings. That way if it's seized up they will know not to fit it. It should move slowly like this: VCU Bench test

Thankyou, living in the country we have a lot of muddy verges this time of year the vitara I had was rear wheel drive and managed ok without resorting to 4wd with the traction control will the freelander manage as well without its prop?

No idea because I've never driven an FL1 with missing props. Both FL1 TD4's in my family have working VCU, Good propshafts & working IRD. Had to replace VCU bearings & mounts on one of them, and re-tested the VCU both on bench & in the car.
