Hi,i am still thinking about removing prop just to see what the drive is like as i worry about vcu e.t.c...My question is recently i put a new clutch in (2000 1.8) and when i disconnected the front prop from the ird just above on the floor pan were 2 holes so i put some wire through the holes and tied around the front prop to support the weight.Do you think it would be ok for a small drive like this with the rear still connected as the front would spin on the wire i pressume??I know its not ideal but it would be a quick round the block and would save removing the whole lot then after driving thinking nah and have to refit it all?? Also if i did remove it all then surely the bit that comes from the ird that the prop bolts onto would be fine left alone?? but i see ird blanking plates for sale but cant think why you would need them???? cheers

Dont even think about it. The consequences of the front of the prop shaft dropping and jambing into the deck are too much to consider!
The pinion shaft (output to the prop) in the IRD can be removed if it or the crown wheel have been damaged. The blanking plate then seals the IRD.
