I need to change the propshaft bearings on my 02 td4. Doesnt seem to be to great a task, but, and apologies if this has already been asked (I have searched, honest....) but why can you not take each prop off individually, then then remove VCU and bearings after? Obviously each prop flange nedd be marked in relation to the diff/gearbox flange, but other than that......

I may answer my own question when I scrawl under there....but after checking RAVE, cant see a reason why whole unit needs to be dropped in one piece.

Even impolite advice is welcome on this, ha!!

You risk damaging the UJ’s if you take the prop off whilst it’s all on the car. Much easier to take it all off in one piece, then separate on the floor/bench. The whole lot weights 25kg so be careful not to bend the UJ’s too much.

I've just done mine.
