I use normal glasses for grinding on a wheel, using flap disc or using slitting disc but if I'm using a grinding disc or cutter I'll use proper googles

May have to invest in a pair of them just for grinding etc. And use the ones in the pic the rest of the time as i barely notice they are there.

Yeah I think I'm gona take a look at better eye protection. Like yourself I only use dewalt glasses but think I will up grade to some goggles I've read a couple of threads with people damaging an eye and I have had a couple of near misses around the side of my glasses... I've always been put off by goggles because they are just such a pain in the a*&e to take off and put on, yes I know this is supremely lazy but I like the fact the glasses just pop up on to my hat. Any thoughts on the middle ground of the glasses with the foam protection something like these

After I suffered the metal grindings in the eye while wearing standard safety plastic glasses I upgraded to THESE Bolle Blast goggles. Really good quality and no misting

they look the same as the dewalt ones just a nicer colour they'll be my next pair I think or I'll just buy a speedglass helmet

Sweet... bought some of these and also the Bolle Tracker 2 glasses as my dewalt ones (I have come to realize) really are not enough for the work I'm doing.... Some more great advice from Landyzone

At least you are doing it the right way, buying them before you have to take a trip to A&E to have some doc pick out metal splinters from your eyeball. If you want some more advice DO NOT pick up the grinder without putting on the goggles it only takes a second to get a stray metal splinter fly into you eye

I really need to remember this........ Almost done it again tonight!

Luckily it landed in the corner of my eye. Then again i never learn.

Anyways tonight i made my recovery points ready for when i finally get round to building my winch bumper.

First pic is of them both cut to shape and starting to drill the holes for the jate ring.

And this pic is of em finished with a 22mm hole drilled.

Just incase your wondering they are made from 20mm thick steel. Should be strong enoughi reckon

Cut em into squares using a automatic hacksaw machine at work the cut the corners to make the v shape with an angle grinder.

Did you finish them with a grinder or did you polish and round the edges? They look mighty shiny sir....

Rounded the edges off a bit on a grinding wheel, then attacked em with a wire brush wheel, then gave them a good go over on the buffing wheel

Now cannot wait for the rest of the box and the 6mm sheet to turn up so i can continue with the bumper build.

6mm will be nice and beefy its what I use on my personal stuff or at least close 1/4" is preferred

Yep nice and beefy is the only way i reckon this bumper will be strong enough.

6mm sheet for the winch tray
3mm 100x50 box for the rest
Then them hench recovery points

Gonna be bloody heavy though

Yeah 6mm folded and welded tray from one piece rather than two, make the mounts up so they go over both sides of the chassis leg using the 6mm with some fillets and that should do nicely

My series bumper is all 5mm but thats plenty for it
