hi , my speedo is jumping but that's not the main problem , or I don't think it is, its ticking from behind the gauge and obviously the faster I go the faster it ticks, it seems to be ticking with the bounce of the needle, I know this sounds like a dance but can anyone give advise on this ?, ive already had the dash of but cant see anything wrong
regards

If it's a cable driven speedo then what you can hear is the square drive on the end of the cable slipping in the receiver in the speedo.

If it's not cable driven then I haven't got a clue.

First of all make sure that the cable is properly screwed into the speedo. If it's not loose then take it out and look at the cable end, if should be square. It's rarely the speedo head that goes faulty.

I thanks for the reply, I took the white plastic clip of but how do I get the square cable from the back of the speedo its in tight ?

yes its cable, its a 1990 defender, will I need a new speedo or new cable ?
cheers

Take the cable out the back and see. If the cable comes out and is perfectly square, could be a new speedo....or vica versa.

Also check that it's properly seated.....the cable should be fairly tough to fit/take off

Gently but firmly.
Sorry mate I know that doesn't really help but they should be tight anyway and if yours has been slipping as it turns it might be even tighter.
