Lads, got a new key fob from the main stealers today. Went to sync it to the car & nothing happens. Key will loak & unlock. Key in the ignition starts the RR no problem. Little red led on d fob flashes when you push lock & unlock buttons but yet the fob won't lock or unlock the car. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

i might be wrong but ive heard things about new spares keys have to be the right one out of the 3 keys that are issued when the car was new, you have a number 1 key, a number 2 key and a normal no fob key. what is your new key and your old one? it should say on the label on the back of the keys.

yes im with him. like your RR nice color coded bumpers, mine lacks that. :welcome2:

Tommo, I only ever had one key since I got the rr. It was the no fob key. New key which is a fob doesn't have any stickers or nothing on it. Main stealer had it in a small plastic bag for me.

Doug, thanks for the welcome

You will need to sync the new key to your car, the rolling code will be too far out for automatic sync I think. Proceedure varies according to year, have a look at you owners manual which should give the correct proceedure:D

Go back to the stealer and ask him which key he ordered. It's unusual for it not to have the white sticker on the back above the battery cap. Whilst you are at it, also ask him for the Lockset Barcode which will have been on a sticker with the packaging...it consists of 13 or 14 numbers and letters. You have the right to this information.:behindsofa:

i got a new key from the stealers a while ago and that came with the sticker on the back saying key 1 and they came outside and made sure it worked in the car fine before i left them and never been a problem since

Data,
I followed the instructions in the manual for syncn the key but alas it didn't work. I remember reading in one of the threads about when you stick the key into the ignition barrel that the led will flash briefly because the car "recognises" the key. This also doesn't happen yet the key does start the car.

IrishR,
I will indeed go back to the stealer. My mechanic works for them & he tried to sync it also without success & he's also at a loss to explain why it's not working.

To all, thanks for the replies & will let ye know if & when it's resolved.

If the Fob code stored in the Becm is different to the keyfob code the fob won't work. With only the emergency key being supplied with the car, it gets my suspicious mind working. Also, the rolling code can stop the key from responding, clearing the RF memory in the Becm (Simple task) can correct this.
You really need the lockset bar code in order to check the FOB code stored is correct if clearing the RF memory does not work.
If you let me have the lockset bar code I can tell you what the Becm stored code should be.
