Pressure in airbox

Hi, has anyone had pressure in the air box, with a booming noise coming through as well, also a bad tappet arrived at the same time?

replace the crankcase breather valve... though it would be nice to know what engine is involved

look at your bad tappet

I think it's a 10p td5 was fine one minute then not, thanks for the reply by the way.

you need to look for your bad tappet noise,

I should know Tuesday from the garage, just hoping I don't then have to go see my bank manager!! It's a 2001 disco td5, the es version, so I can at least relax on the armrest when I wait to be recovered

mines has armrests but i still lean on cubby box

it could ruin your engine ,but it could just be a new tappet , an exhaust valve that doesnt open fully will pressurise the engine

That's a good thought, if the exhaust valve is shut that would send pressure back through the inlet valve and into the air box. You are a clever man, let's hope its right, thanks again, work tomorrow so bed now, many many thanks for your time, Rob

I had a woomp woomp noise from the snorkel - I thought is was just resonation. Had the tappets done - one was miles out due to a valve cap punched through. replaced all 8 caps and reset the gaps and its now quiet as a dead mouse

Thanks for that, will let you know how I get on, the bill should start growing Tuesday when the garage start on it, er, don't want to buy any kids do you?

Sorry to bother you again, but what causes the valve to drop? It's been mentioned that the con rod could have been bent in the process, is there anything that can be done to prevent it happening again, or should my disco start to worry that bonfire night is not far away?

I had this after replacing the hg. Re done the valves again, one was pretty tight, it got rid of it. Have you got a lot of smoke coming from the oil filler cap?

Hello and thanks for your time, there is no smoke from the filler cap nor the exhaust. Just a booming coming from the air box, and pressure in the air box accompanied by a sudden ticking like a tappet. Took the rocker cover off and the valve nearest the firewall looks as is the spring is compressed more on one side, valve bent? Just hope I haven't bent a con rod or messed up a piston.

If you have bent a rod it's not a major issue. My advice to you would be to talk to @jamesmartin about it. He has saved my arse on many occasion.

Hi James, will try and get some information from the garage as soon as they get the head off, one question though, on top of all the valves the cap is black, except the suspect one nearest the firewall, this one has a blue cap, maybe done before?
