Having my crossmember from Clive fitted on Monday (not by Clive unfortunately as he is too far away) and was wondering the best way to refit my tow bar. Its a DB height adjustable thingamybob. Can I just bolt the 4 huge nuts and bolts straight to the crossmember or do I have to re-bolt the bottom extension piece from my old crossmember back on? Wat exactly does that lower extension piece actually do and is it needed??

Stops the force from the trailer twisting the cross member when the hitch is at the bottom of the adjustment

Cheers. Just realised that it does not fit without the extension piece anyway as the holes are in the wrong place and it is pre drilled for the extension. Should have checked before asking really!!!

The various stresses generated whilst towing are huge. I'd always refit the various braces as they were and rest easy that nothing will give way. Also that way if you have a problem while towing your insurance company wont be able to wriggle out of paying up.

All the crossbracing and bottom strapping coupled with one of Pressbrake's crossmembers equals over-engineering that will never fail. JMHO

I will have to give it a good rub down and paint as its a bit groggy and will look out of place against the newly painted crossmember. Just out of curiosity, what are the other four holes for in the crossmember (up above the two used for the towbar)
