Loads of threads all over the forums discussing this very subject.

Basically, depends on other mods, but for now as you're only starting out I'd leave the plough/towbar on! OK, it might get you stuck, but it's a great early indicator of how you're doing .. ;)

Don't use the towball for recovery, go round the towbar through the mounts, the ball isn't strong enough!

My towbar is now removable so I moved the lighting socket to the bumper .. ;)

If you want to use that strap/strop then I'd suggest being very careful with it. Don't let anyone jerk you out, just use it for a straight, slow pull. They have no give and it's likely to break either vehicle! They're mostly useful as tree strops/anchor points for winching/holding etc. Get a decent 24mm or wider rope with properly spliced ends, 8m long is good, and get rated shackles .. that D shackle isn't rated and is potentially a weak link that might turn into a missile.

have fun .. ;)

cheers paul D for the reply.

can you point me in the right direction for a recovery rope ? and shackles ...

just cos i have been lookin and there is loads of stuff out there !!! proper head banging...
i dnt want to buy something and it to be wrong!!!

i normally use place like paddocks etc so if u could point me in the right direction it would be great

Don't do recoveries with a strop - that's the simple advice from most of the experienced guys on here. A rope is safer and more likely to get the whole car out rather than just one bit of it!

bow shackles are better in taking strain in various diections.D shackles are really for one direction and anything else can cause em to fail.I snapped a strop like that up in derby.Had my rangie stuck(2 ton) pulled by kingson(2 ton rrc) and mad frank (bob tailed rrc but still close to 2ton).Id go for a procomp recovery strop rated to about 13 ton iirc
