I have a 2000 Disco2. If there are different kinds of keys mine is the one with the teardrop shaped fob with two buttons. These buttons themselves were missing from the spare when I got it and the unlock one cracked and fell out of the other one yesterday.

I've seen replacements on Ebay with both 'LandRover' branded buttons and blank buttons and I'm OK swapping the bits out from the old key.

My question is whether any of these are better then the others? They're obviously cheap Chinese blanks but are they OK? Or... is there a proper LR part that's reasonably priced? And better?

Quick question,

is your key blade part of the key fob? or is the fob seperate?

I have purchased off of ebay the blank buttoned keyfob that is attached to the keyblade, about £4 , then it is just a matter of finding someone to cut a new blade, or swap your original blade over if it has not been glued in.

Cheers

those casings from eaby are good enough for 2-3 years, depends on how often you are using the fob, just swap the blade and the internals and go, see this

The key blade is attached to the fob.
If the Ebay ones last a couple of years and are much of a muchness, I'll go for one of those.

Hmmm..... another 'partial success'.

All swapped over and the unlock button works but not the lock one. It doesn't seem to shove far enough to hit the microswitch.

I've just burst both my unlock buttons.
No bad after 14 years.
For £15 found a company who will replace the casing, replace the micro switches and fit the blade to the new casing all on a 24hr turnaround.
Saves any faffing about

if you push the microswitch directly do you see the led working?...
I am a numpty. It was the spare key I swapped first and it appears the microswitch is missing... no switch, no light, no unlocking.
I've just put the new case on my other key and it's working fine.

Can you send me details?
I'll send my spare off to them.
Ta.
