Is there anyone on the forum with a D1 V8 running 16" 85 profile tyres and who tows regularly as well as getting muddy ? I'll be needing new tyres soon and as I've got a lift and flexi arches, my choices are wide, but I tow quite often over long distances and don't want to compromise this ability too much.

Any practical experience anyone can share?

what size as 85 is just a percentage of the width tyres are sized xxx/xx%/xx and equates to width/%of width = height/rim size.. so 205/85 is gonna be very different to 265/85

255/85/16's are 33'' tall......don't know what size is stock but these will alter gearing approx 11.5% higher than 225/75's for example.....which is a fair whack for towing

hi ive got 235/85r16 muds on my truck and there not the best in wet/slippy conditions:eek:. T.b.h. id go for AT's rather MT's if did a lot of towing

I run 31's and there is a noticeable difference, you can sit at 70 but it's slowing down on hills and it takes a bit to go past 55-60, when I'm running my pump higher it improves alot but it's juicy. If your towing I would maybe look t 2 sets if wheels, put good AT's on your stock rims and get some wellers, £30 each from paddocks, use your road ones when your towing or to look nice, have a bad ass set of mud tyres for playing with

I have 255/85/16 bfs Muds on the disco.

A good compromise all round, great for off road and the snow. The towing side as long as you keep to a good tyre pressure all round (ran mine on 32 all round) found it stable enough. I towed my race bikes when i was racing, also towed the caravan. Never had a problem. I personally wouldnt buy two sets of wheel.

With the 33" height as long as you have the lift, you wouldnt need to modify the castor arms, or even get wide angle props. I have put my disco to all sorts and only broke the diffs when I used to much right foot on bits I should have accepted defeat.

With regards to the wet road its great never had a problem just like any car it will be a little slippy but same as any car on a wet road.
