Powered gas strut replacement

Apologies for this question if it is has been asked and answered before, but google has not been able to help me and the search function is still down.
Does anyone have any tips for replacing the powered gas strut on a 2012 RR Sport? Is this it a straightforward job or should I be wary of attempting it?

Bonnet or boot?

In mitigation I hadn't appreciated the bonnet strut was powered...

No worries, powered? As in press a button to open electrically or gas powered?

If they just has filled struts, there is a little clamshell clip that can be flipped open or of and then the new ones push fitted on with a little resistance.
It would be wise to have someone hold the boot for you when you do it. Always change them in pairs.

I am not sure exactly what the wires do but presumably there is some internal mechanism that actuates the strut...
Whilst I appreciate the wisdom of replacing struts in pairs (and obviously would if it were just a £20 window strut or similar), I would rather avoid having to drop another £150 on a second one if I can avoid it!

Ooer, I didn't realize they were litterly powered. In that case I've no idea about replacing it, sorry Mr flounderbout.... I don't think I'd like to replace it in pairs either!!

No worries - when I realised it was kaput I assumed it would be straight forward, but then getting the busted one off was a mission, and I worry there might be some sort of calibration steps required or some sequence of powering up or such like when replacing it. TBH I can't quite imagine how the power aspect of it works - I suppose it must have a standalone hydraulic motor in the arm or something. Anyway, perhaps will just see how I get on and then report back if it ends in 'heroic' disaster.

Ive got problems with my powered tailgate struts on my 2012 L320, they are £200 to replace, will the manual gas struts fit

£200 is nothing in the grand scheme of things. It's a modern Range Rover, so it's going to be expensive.
No, you can't fit standard gas strut, as the CJB would likely throw a code, and probably other issues along the way.
Fix it properly.

assume urs is the Range Rover sport , indeed need to replace them like for like as mentioned the ECM will throw a fit

can get them for around £110 each and agree as alas having a new Range Rover all parts on it will be expensive

hope u don’t need to replace any struts or stability control items as u won’t need just a drink but the whole bottle, lol

at least it’s not a real Range Rover , some of the prices for the proper rangies are eye watering

indeed , similar to the D3 where I’ve seen many that wish to fit some crap parts , I think they were even a good 60k when new

just never understood why some also fit low profile tyres or a cheap make on something that weighs nearly 3 ton , madness
