Power Transfer Unit
Hi all

Newbie here so be gentle.

Done a quick search of the topics and I can only find a couple of references to the PTU both of which are old and not really relevant.
I know there's loads of info on the infamous rear diffs on these Freeloaders but I can't find much on the front transfer units. Has anybody had one fail and fitted a recon unit? Again, I can't find any info on the ease (or not) of replacing one. Bell offer recon units but I was wondering how they are to work on.......

Any advice / steers greatly appreciated

Good user name. :)
Cat's aren't pointless to everyone. They increase fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20%. So the oil companies are quids in!!;)

As for your question. I don't believe it's a particularly fragile unit. However as it's not doing anything most of the time, is not getting a real pounding.

Thanks Arctic2, I've joined and posted.

Good point Nodge, I never considered that..........the next time I run over one I'll think about the oil companies.
The unit looks sturdy and compact but the splines on the inner sleeve must have sheared on mine as I've lost drive to the rear. It does look a simple unit but I can't find anything about a DIY replacement. To be fair, Bell engineering only want 270squid to fit, might be worth saving the knuckles.

Ah you were talking about the furry cat, not the money making tin can in the exhaust.

Just imagine how many mice and rats would exist, if the population wasn't kept in check by cats. ;)
