Morning
I 've got a fully re built 90 and its got a new power steering pump fitted to it, the steering feels quite heavy to me, it does have a smaller steering wheel fitted but even with that i would still say its heavy. Its got plenty of fluid in, so i was wondering if the pump was adjustable in any way as to make the steering lighter or are they pre set??
The only other thing i could think of checking was the pre load on the swivel bearings. I would be grateful if any one had any ideas, regards EwdMucker

It might be the s UJs on the shaft between box and colume

jack up the front on stands and check for play in the swivels
drop off the drag link to see if the wheel move from side to side easy
while you have the drag link and shaft off check the steering box by hand
It should move easy and smooth with a bit of resistance

Its got a 200 Tdi in it from a disco, i have looked at the receipt for the steering box from when it was re built and it is listed as a 6 bolt PAS box. Its only done about 2500k on the land rover.

I've. Got this problem at the minute on my defender 200tdi. I haven't looked into yet but sometimes it's stiff to turn if left in one place for a second or two . I'm eventually going to get the pump checked as I don't want to remove the box unless I really have to.
Don't mean to hi jak but is there a pump out there that's got more power than standard so less effort to turn? I'll ask the guys that going to recon the pump if not.

I lathered the UJ's on the column last night with a load of spray grease to see if that makes any difference, i would be surprised if the box is at fault on mine because its done so little mileage and is only about 18 months old. I'm going to see what thats like today and take it from there.
