Power Steering Not Working?

All sorted thanks guys.

Turned out to be a bit of a pig. Couldn't get the pulley to stay still to free up one of the bolts and the threaded pipe which goes into the pump was a bit of a pig too. Ended up removing the intercooler, radiator, and oil cooler so that I had better access.

All in all it took me about 7.5 hours in the end. Although I did have to make two trips to the shops for extra tools (32mm flat spanner for the viscous coupling on the fan, and a bolt extractor kit) and a trip to my dad's to borrow a tool he made years ago for removing oil filters from the massive engines on cargo ships. This made all the difference in removing the pulley.

Tried bleeding it but when the tube kept exploding off and causing a fountain I knew at least that the new pump was working.

The new pulley has an opening in the shaft which will take an allen key. This will make it much easier to remove once I've ordered some Loc Tite

Anyway, just done a 20 mile drive in it and everything is OK.

Think my pump is on its way out too. When stationary, steering is not assisted, moving is fine. Is it the beginning of the end of my pump also?

Steering box is 4 month old, so I don’t think it’s that.

new or recon, input shaft is a torsion shaft its the twist between outer and inner that gives the assistance ie directs oil flow in the box

It’s recon

It’s heavy whilst stationary or manouvering slowly. Fine whilst normal driving. Hope it isn’t the box

you cant rule it out then,9 times out of 10 its pump,does having high revs whilst turning stationary help ie compensating for a weak pump

I will try in the morning giving it some beans whilst I turn the wheel. If it’s easy whilst revving, it’s the pump? If it makes no difference, potentially box?

Have you done the simple checks like belt tension and fluid level?

Good, good. Thankfully there’s not too much to go wrong other than pump and box, you could do with another one of either to use the process of elimination!

I’ll try Jamesmartin suggestion of revs associated pumping power in the morning, I hope it’s the pump........

Not even been out the house yet lol.
Going out with the dogs soon, will post once I get out.

Seems intermittent, is this possible? It done it a couple of times but not always, only at tick over, revving seemed improve it
