I have a power steering leak. It's coming from the metal pipe thats runs under/beneath the radiator and appears to connect the pump to the box.

It's dripping so I guess the line isn't pressurised. Would it be ok to chop the split section out and put some rubber hose on for a temp fix?

I've wiped round the pipes, had the reservoir off and given it a clean to eliminate run off ideas and it still drips.

Cheers.

Not true - it is pressurised - and no.

just take the pipe to Pirtek and get them to check/repair/make a new one.

Had thought about that, but its not really practical when my nearest one is 35 miles away and Disco is only form of transport.

Someone mentioned Wynns power steering stop leak to me.... not sure if they were joking or not.... Never been convinced of the stop leak products.

this is the pipe i'm speaking of just to clarify.

It might even be box to reservoir looking at it.

just been out to check again. It's deffo PAS pipe work. The one you can see (with the red blobs on it) is the pump to box line. The one visable behind it it the box to reservoir.

Once i get back from picking friend up from college i'll un hook them and find out which one is leaking.

yeah was just looking on fleabay. Problem is i need LR for work runs hence the question about rubber pipe. Would only need to last until the weekend.

if it much of a leak id have thought it squirted out when steering hose clips wont hold full pressure but might hold a bandage on if leak is slight

The way to tell for sure if it's the pressure pipe is put the steering on full lock and you will see oil spray out of a pressure pipe with a leak.

In nz the hose suppliers will not crimp new hose onto old pipes on pas but they will hard solder threaded unions into the metal pipe and supply a length of hose with threaded fittings to screw onto the modded pipes. That's expensive so best to buy new pipe than repair old one.

Hi I have just changed the pas pipes on my d2, one had corroded so much it snapped so all fluid leaked out. When I got both pipes out the other was corroded aswell. Easy job to do but you have to remove front grill headlights etc to gain access. Pipes were about £100 from ebay. hope this helps
