Good evenin all and merry christmas, ope ur all well.

Does anyone know what higher amp alternator will fit my 2.5 TD(19J) 90? When winching my mate 100ft up a bank after realising he had **** tyres on and slid on ice, my power draind to the point my engine cut out. I was giving high revs to put power back in and stopped often, but that still had no effect. I have just got a decent battery which has helped but my alternator is only 45amp so without a higher power one im wasting my time. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

your enjin shouldnt have cut out as once runnin it should have been fine..
even with a 45amp alternator if it is working correctly it should have been correctly charging the battery..

are you using 2 batts or one?
i use 2 numax batts a split charge system, and a 100amp alternator winch runs of the 2nd battery

I did have two Banner batterys on. A larger one and a small one (piggyback) but not very high amp though. My new Varta (or summert like that) has equal amps as the two combined.

Cold Cranking Amps

Cold cranking amps (CCA) is a measurement of the number of amps a battery can deliver at 0 ° F for 30 seconds and not drop below 7.2 volts. So a high CCA battery rating is especially important in starting battery applications, and in cold weather.

Sorry Guys I think i miss-explained what happend. I winched my mate up on sunday with dipped beam on and 4x 55w spots on to see what I was doing and the engine on fast idle. It brought him up fairly ok. On tuesday I had to winch a vw polo up a bank aswell (60ft using a snatch block) the only lights on were dipped beam but the power slowly started to drain so I stopped often for a few minutes then it would pull no problem for no more than a minute before dieing again then when nearly at the top it cut out completely and wouldnt start (requireing a jump)

Hi there
dyu mean power would drain from ur winch or ur engine? if its the winch suspect overheating winch motor

FFS do you not know the power a winch pulls. Chances are there's fook all wrong with the battery or alternator. You just drained it faster then the alternator could recharge it.
