Hi All, I have a battery power drain problem on a 2003 Discovery II.

If I disconnect the battery and re-connect my multi tester, the multi tester shows a 0.01amp drain. If I then open a door and close the door and wait for the lights to go out, it shows a 0.3amp drain. If I pull engine bay fuse 11 (ABS) the drain drops back down to 0.01amp and stays there even when I replace the fuse. If I open a door again it goes back to drawing 0.3amps. I have individually pulled every fuse and relay from the engine bay, the ones under the steering wheel and the remote ones under the drivers and passenger seats, but none of them had any effect, other than fuse 11.

Anyone else had, and hopefully fixed, this problem?
What has the ABS fuse got to do with door opening?
Anyone got any ideas what to try next?

Many thanks,
Gary.

Could it be that the door opening affects the alarm/immobiliser system somehow, and it's actually this draining the battery?

Over winter the Disco wouldn't start if left for a few of days without running.
Mind you I only got the vehicle before winter.
Very happy with it, but it has a few niggles, which I was expecting.

I checked the idle drain and found it was 0.6amps. The front electric motor seat relays were pulling 0.3amps all the time. After pulling the relays out there was still a 0.3amp drain from the abs valve fuse line.

So yes the battery has been going flat and I am trying to fix both problems.

I have seen a few web sites posted over the last few years with exactly the same problem, but never a cause or solution.

I thought the idle drain should me a few milli amps, not 300milli amps.

And after I pull fuse 11 and replace it, this is what it drops down to.

Thanks,
Gary.

I have got the same problem with mine, if i leave it for 3- 4 days then the battery goes flat and the culprit is the draw on fuse number 11, ABS. (1999 Disco 2)

Whilst I am trying to find the cause, I have fitted a battery monitoring device, which disconnects the power supply if it drops, leaving a reserve that will start the vehicle. Battery Brain UK Products, Purchase and Check Out

If anybody comes up with a solution to the abs draw then can you please keep me informed of your findings.

Hi,

I have been experiencing this problem too. Have spent lots of money on top of the line batteries and then discovered this fault. My car is behaving exactly like yours. Did you solve the issue? Help would be much appreciated.
