Because you can buy standard prop shaft nuts and bolts pretty much anywhere. A lot easier than trying to find a specific size in 14mm. Don't understand the problem with carrying one 9/16th spanner and one 9/16th socket

These propshafts are designed for 3/8ths unf whereas there is no near complete metric equivalent that is standard...
