possible injection pump failer

hi peeps big help needed from all you talented poeple out there,,noticed a rattle when accelarated was hopeing it was the air con pump so cut belt of still rattaled from that area now thinking its injection pump cos on the way home it started to cut out as though was running out of fuel but when i stopped ticked over like normal plus when you rev it realy hard there is huge amounts of black smoke infact more like sut i now have a nice patch of black grass at the back of car,,, can any one confrim to me that my thoery of a nackered injection pump is right or point me in the right direction would be greatly recived many thanks,,,,,forgot to mention its a 300 tdi 111.000 on clock serviced 2 months ago ,,,

I would check lift pump first-injection pump buzzes if pullig air in-fit a clear piece of pipe between filter and injection pump inlet and see if you have air bubbles-no air allowed

I thought the same when i was running on bio diesel when it was too cold. My injection pump sounded as though it was rattling really bad but if i undid the bleed screw on the top of the filter housing it all went quiet until i tightened it back up! The reason for this is that the pump was struggling to get fuel but when the weather went warmer the rattling disappeared.
