Hi Gang,

After 1338 days and 114.000km we finally arrived back at our starting point, weary and homeless but chock-a-block full with amazing experiences and about 20.000 photos.

On the home stretch from Spain while starting out in 1st gear it popped out making an awful racket I thought at first I lost an axle, then it happened again shortly thereafter..and realized that it popped out of gear into neutral, after that I was very cautious and nervous pulling away and kept my hand on the stick.. it hasn't happened again since then.. I am fearing the worst (gearbox) but could it be something else?

Cheers and thanks,

Gary

could be signs gear box is ready for a rebuild or it might be that it wasnt fully selected, under the turret on the box selector housing is a yoke the grub screw can become loose and so not allways fully select

will check the yoke and grub screw before I panic.. I don't have the tools/workshop to do a rebuild since we don't even have a place to live atm which means buying a used one on ebay (could be risky) or a reconditioned one (definitely expensive)

Happens once - incidence
Happens twice - coincidence
Happens again, something is up. Twice in a large number of miles is not proof that something is broken IMHO. Of course, it won't do any harm to make sure that nothing is loose.

It happened twice on the same day, I would say about an hour or so of driving apart but a lot of the kms was done in 5th gear.. The only thing I am sure of is that I'm not sure of anything :) I will check the yoke and grub in the morning *crosses fingers*
