I have just read a few threads regarding poor starting and having had all Electrics checked and double checked I have still got a problem starting after being stood for about 7 hours. engine turns over but does not fire when it does there is a lot of smoke. I do not like having to wind it up sometimes as much as 4 lots of 15 -20 second bursts. Do you think this could be fuel siphoning back as it is ok on warmer days.

I agree just changed mine for 14 ish quid to my door bin and tried it just now and wow what a differEnce it makes. Just cos it getting voltage don't mean the plug works.

i would also check timing as well as often can be a bit retarded if not careful with pump timing there is slack in timing pin

I had the same problem replaced the 4 rubber breather pipes between the glow plugs( If that makes sense) Problem Solved for less that £5

It makes no sense whatsoever. If you had replaced the rubber leak-off pipes between the injectors, however, that would make sense.

They are about 3 inches in length i think thet are breather pipes

Diesel leak-off pipes on injectors circled in red.
Glow plug wiring circled in yellow.

Could be your fuel lift pump has given up, and the engine is relying on the injection pump to draw fuel from the tank hence the extended cranking needed. There are lots of test procedures detailed on this site.
