Poor sound using AUX cable!

Hi folks. I have just bought a 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE and was excited to use the AUX cable input to play music from my iPhone. When connected up, however, the sound is terrible! It sounds like its underwater. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this and how to fix it? I have tried differnet AUX cables but it's the same with all of them. Any help or advice would be much appreciated! Thanks, Steve

I've heard the socket can give trouble, so that's the place to start.
Do all the other sound sources sound ok?

I must admit that I use CDs, recorded in MP3, which gives many hours of music per disc.

Thanks Nodge! Yep, all the other parts of the sound system work perfectly—it’s just the AUX connection. Like you, I might just have to resort to recorded CDs with all my fav tracks on.

So it sounds like it's the Aux input socket, or maybe someone has butchered the wiring connected to it, which has been seen before.

That's what I do, and the MP3 track names come up on the LCD, which is helpful.

I suppose it could be the socket. I doubt if it’s the wiring as this vehicle is absolutely pristine and nothing looks tampered with. One thing though, the AUX connector hole seems a little too loose for any 3.5mm cable jack. It slides in & out far too easily! Maybe that could be the issue. If so perhaps changing the AUX socket for a new one might help
MP3 disc sounds good! Presumably the track names don’t come up from the AUX connection?

The sockets do get damaged, but they are a Ford part, so are cheap to replace.

I use MP3 CDs simply because of the convenience, and the information on the screen.

There's nothing on the screen when the Aux socket is used.

Cheers my friend! I think I’ll save myself the time & hassle of changing the AUX port (which is not guaranteed to solve the issue!) and record all my favourite tracks onto CDs and be done with it. I think I’m over-thinking the need to use the AUX socket. I guess when you get a new vehicle you want to test everything! It is 11years old after all! Thanks for your input Nodge68—much appreciated
