Can anyone please advise me...
I don't get a very good radio signal keeps coming and going
any ideas anyone ?

Disco1 300 series and D2's both have the aerial in the rear side window and an amplifer above the head lining so first off, if you have that system, is check the power to the amp check the fuse first.

that maybe true for later 300's my early 300 has (used to have!) it in the OFS front wing, my D2 has it in the glass side window

mine snapped off laning ages back, so I nicked a bit of heavy duty electric cable (20mm I think) of a sparky, stripped the bottom 4/5 inches twisted it up a bit so it would fit and stuck it in where the old aerial was, never had a better siganl in any motor. You can just about make it out on my profile pic.

And it just bends when hit by branches so you just bend it back.

I had the same problem so fitted one of these. eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace
no problems now!!
stuck inside the windscreen at the top (so no damage from trees etc) wire under the roof lining edge then down the corner pillar into the dashboard to the radio.
I did however find that I had to lengthen the earth wire by about 8" and picked up a screw on the sunroof motor mount. also had to buy an extention from the accessory shop for the coax (about £2) and lengthen the power wire to pick up the aeriel output live from the back of the radio (the one that makes the ordinary aeriel go up/down) but it's only a 10 minute job to extend them.
