My steering column lower bearing colapsed on me last night meaning me wheel flops about in all directions a good few inches.

unfortunantly this means it hits the cowl and locked up on me last night. lucky i wasnt racing on and was able to stop and evalate before continuing slowely.....

Now unless someone tells me otherwise i see it as i need the whole column.

I have the 1987 4 spoke steering wheel

will QMB101620 fit and is this the same as NRC7635 that the parts book specifys ?

Standard price for this seems to be about 110 quid - does that seem fair ? ive posted an add for a used one- but on further investigation the nature of them being dust sealed and not 2RS means that anything used is likely to be in a similar way ?

That sounds pretty scary, not surprised ya pants nearly took a hammering! Pleased you're ok!!
What cowl are you talking about? It sounds like a lot of movement, but I suppose a small amount of movement at that end will be magnified over the length of the column. Is the top tie bar to the bulkhead still attached?
I'm off work today, so done a quick google and it looks like a nightmare to change the bearing or even source one. New column seems the easiest way to go. LRDirect and paddocks stock the QMB101620 for £93.63 +VAT and £84.91 +VAT, respectively.

yeah everythings attached , the cowls the bit round the ignition under the speedo dials ive been in under the bonnet and checked it out - half the bearings resting on the UJ the bearing rollers/balls are missing - the cage is mangled and the column is free to flap aboot like a sausage in an alley.

thats a good price from paddocks. probably easier to order a new one and keep it well greased. it looks like qmb has a crush zone in it where as the nrc one doesnt.

Im gonna give it some love this weekend anyway - will get the collumn pulled out as i need to change the brake servo and speedo cable anyway so half the dash and pedal box is going to be out anyway - makes access easier.

watch this space it WILL snow next week as soon as i immobilise the beast !
