Hello

I have just brought all the wood to ply line the back of my 90, its all in 9mm hardwood marine ply. But I have also ordered some 2nd hand rear folding bench seats. Can I fit the backs of these directly to the ply wood or do they have to be secured to steel?

Have searched the forum but haven't found any conclusive info

Many thanks
James

They need to really be bolted to the vehicle. It is just the back's so it's not like there would ever be any tremendous strain on them even in an accident.

I would arrange a few bolts that go through the lot and clamps it down.

Also, make sure in places where the bases go etc. there are reinforcing plates as bolts could rip through the tub.

+1, Bolt the seats through both the ply and the metal.
I'm not sure but you might find the seats have to be secured to the body of the vehicle to get through a MOT, Just a thought.

The bench seats in the back of mine are secured by a clip and one bolt (for the backs) there's a bit of metal at the front that a bracket on the rear of the back slides behind, a but/bolt at the rear end then secures it.
There's then 4 bolts that bolt the base down with spreader plated that do under the wheel arch (you will need 2 people to fit these)
