I built a LED panel voltmeter into the front of the coin holder. The coin holder still opens as it should too.

Thanks Gary. It's large enough and bright enough to be read easily when I look at it but fitted low down on the dash so that it's not distracting. The LEDs are a nice green colour to match everything else.

always nice seeing add ons installed nicely

sometimes see some that look really bad

like when some people install cbs, can sometimes see them just screwed onto the dashboard, aaaarrrrrrrrr

The only way to measure the correct vehicle voltage is at the source, and that's the vehicles battery terminals, not down the line and via a cigarette/accessory socket, it seems not a lot of people know that. :(

As for volt meters in cars, :D

Maybe you could explain your thinking there.
If all you're measuring is just the voltage of the battery, then you're correct, but in this application you're measuring the voltage on the vehicle systems.
And yes, I am one of those people who after almost 55 years of using various electrical and electronic measurement systems does know exactly how to use a voltmeter.

I don't see a problem there if you take simultaneous readings at the point where the gauge is connected and at the battery then there will be little difference, and quite honestly the accuracy of a device like this is not intended to measure to lab standards, its a useful indication of battery condition and alternator performance.
I fitted one in my defender but flushed with success I bought the one below intending to use it for water temperature, fuel pressure Voltage, and time
