Hi All
I was just wandering if anyone knows anyone in the Wakefield area that would change my timing belt for me ? I would of course get all the parts ready if some one wants to do the job for me ? I would get the timing belt and bearings and also the upgraded oil pump.
All i would need to know if someone is interested in taking the job on and how much they would want to do it for me ?
If anyone is local and interested in doing it please let me know could be a nice earner if someone is interested ?
Regards all

Had any quotes from specialists? They'd do it in their sleep, prob be cheaper than you think

Don't know if anyone on here would want to do it, what if it all went pete tong?

Well just had one wheel bearing done at my local jag Land Rover specialist (not main dealer!) and that cost me £500 so thinking it will be between that and £1000.. hoping I could find a nice man to do it for less!! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Genuine wheel bearing? c£250, plus consumables. Bit steep on the labour unless they had issues stripping down.

Any other indys by you?

I don’t think there’s any specific Land Rover only garages!
Unless anyone on here knows anyone!

Do you think it’s a job I could do on my drive? I don’t mind having a tinker… changed my oil in engine and both diffs!! Just not to sure about the belts!!

With oil pump, minimum of 1k, from any sort of garage.
That would incl belt parts, but not the oil pump.
You also need front crank seal, and the install tool.

Not many garages are going to want to use customer supplied parts.

Don't forget rear belt as well.

Check out LRTime on youtube, its not as involved as you'd think but bit more to it than oil changes!

Have a look on the disco3 forum, might be a write up on there as well

I've never done 1 but I'd have a go if I still had my D3. You've got to weigh up chances of you effing it up against paying for a pro to do it

Again, can't see anyone on here doing it unless they're full time mechanic anyway

It ain't a bad job at all, certainly easier/faster than any 200 tdi cambelt, but add in oil pump and it's more involved.

Say you come to do it on a d3 you've just bought, its overdue cambelt but its got an upto date oil pump, do you change the pump as well or leave well alone?

Hardest job doing it yourself is undoing the crank bolt if your doing the oil pump you will need to remove the starter to do the timing other wise you can mark the pulley I always recommend that you change the oil pump with the cam belt but that's just me

If oil pump is updated type, then it should last the life of the vehicle.

Plus 1 to around 1k , personally I also had my water pump changed at the same time

got to get mine done again next year , will get another new oil pump as won’t take the risk , front timing belt, tensioners, aux belt , etc and another water pump seeing its very accessible whilst doing the belts

don’t think I’ll bother getting the rear fuel pump belt changed again as price seems to jump up a lot

will be in the same boat of trying to find a local garage etc to get it done

They should last a life time but I like to make sure you have max oil pressure especially if you don't know the history but as I said that's just me, have a look at lr time I am sure he does cam belt on several videos will give you an idea what your up against as said replace both idlers and tensioner use OEM, usually at this point I change the cam seals seeing I'm there, rear belt can be done engine in if your good at fiddly things takes me about 5hrs or so longer the first time, at a guess you would save £800 in labour oil pump and both belts
