Hopefully there will be some pics of my series 2a 1971 engine bay here!

The carb is a zenith i think? but does'nt look like the one in haynes doesnt look like a solex, weber or su either and has been bodged in as far as the air pipe is concerned anyway, is it the wrong way round? is it a zenith? .

Also i do'nt have an oil filler pipe on this landy, i have had this one dry stored for 9 years and have only just started doing a bit to it so had nt noticed before! there is a blanking plate on the engine and the rocker cover cap has a breather and is connected to carb.(dont remember that on my last 2a)
It runs fine , but looks pretty poor so would like to put right.
Thanks in advance
Matt

Best way to tell what carb it is, is to take it off and clean it up. Theirs bound to be a stamp on it somewhere. As for the oil filler, their was a rocker cover which had provision for an oil filler just in front of the breather dome piece. Looks like it may have a diesel rocker cover, but their was petrol engines with the oil filler coming out the side of the block. Personally I would look for the gear to have it as a filler coming out the side of the block.

The 5 bearing engines have no filler tube on the side and a filler cap in the rocker cover. That accelerator pump does look a bit Webber like.

Uksfp thanks for that, yeah it has a blanking plate where the oil filler shoud be, i take it they have just been putting oil in through rocker cover. might see if i can find a oil filler pipe and put that back on the side.

Dave c am trying to find a pic of the weber twin choke, its got no marks round the side s at all will remove next weekend unless someone else identifies it or its the weber you mention, looks like i may have to get some custom pipe work!

Thanks all

Cheers oxcides that makes some sense re filler pipe as its a late 2a, or could have been replaced i suppose, i had looked at some series 3 though and all i saw on ebay today that had engine pics had a filler pipe.

thanks oil dripper that is the one. genius.

Has anyone fitted one of these to a 2 1/4, as i would love to see how they got there air pipe across to the filter?

Have you looked at the rocker cover under where your air pipe goes? That's where the filler cap is on mine. You could always convert back to the (probably) original Zenith carb (or the Webber 34ICT) cos you have the air pipe and right angle bend. You would have to find a few linkage parts for the throttle to replace that tatty bit of cable and a rubber sleeve to fit between the air pipe and the top of the carb. Have you got these :- Land Rover Manuals, Part Catalogue, workshop manual, download pdf files, Landroverweb.com Linking your Landy to the World! only the S3 stuff is useful to you but a lot of the bits are similar.

Hi thanks for that. Am going to keep the weber it is the twin choke £170 new!, going to fit a conical air filter straight on the end, and dispense with the oil one, and all that air pipe. Not to worried about the oil filler pipe (dont think there is a problem filling through the rocker breather cap?).
Just on way to my landrover independant for more parts..the 2a mudshield didnt fit needs the series 3 one, never had a 2a that was this mixed up!.
