Please help with my temperature

I have recently purchased a 93 disco series 1 200tdi and when driving normally, the temperature gauge rarely rises above the quarter mark even after about an hours driving. When towing my caravan, the temperature gauge rises to the three quarter mark leaving me rather confused and worried!

could it be coz the injun is working harder?

mines a 300tdi an it sits about 1/3 all the time even when towing the van,
give your radiator a clean an check you still got fins on it while your at it,
wouldn't worry to much though.

Have cleaned the radiator and I did notice some of the fins are missing does this mean a new radiator is in order?

give it a good flushing thro - and if it leaks - then yes.

mite be a good idea if your towing a long way

but i mite be wrong so wait for a few more replys b4 rushin out ta buy one

Mine did that .Rad was fooked.New one cost 100 quid .Easy to fit.You dont want to overheat these engines they dont like it. Worth doing for piece of mind.

My 300 Tdi has just been towing a 1500Kg van through wales and the temperatute gague sat 1/3 of the way up and didn't move even on long uphill stretches foot to the floor full boost. Temprature reads the same solo as well. New rad is cheeper than a new engine!
