All,

I have a 2001 TD4 and having just started it up in neutral, after a few seconds there was an almighty constant loud clatter/rattle coming from the engine bay along with plumes of white smoke billowing from the exhaust.
The car has been misfiring recently and is in need of a new injector.
Therefore, is the injector fault the cause or is it something more sinister.

Many thanks
Regards

Is it white smoke or could it be more black. White smoke would be un burnt diesel, while you could get a problem with the injector causing that, you should not get the noise. Does it do it on tick over or when you put a bit of power on.
If on tick over then would think of a problem with a valve, if when you put the power on then may be a turbo problem.

Thanks for the reply Booboodag.

I can confirm that the smoke is white and there is shedloads of it. The noise starts when on tick over (idling). Its a defo metal rattle from something going round in the engine bay.

If its anything like my td4 rattle i had to leave it at the garage and not to drive it .one balt had snapped and was almost finished chewin another . I searched my posts and it was the MASTER PULLEY
