OK it all started with me taking the Disco for tracking....mainly because the steering wheel is not strieght when going strieght....anyway they pointed out that I needed both track rod ends and I started the battle yesterday...
Got the bar off the disco and the drivers side came off with relative ease....the passanger side however was a differant story and I gave up on it 3 times....only to go back again...
The track rod ends I bought are handed...RH and LH with differant threads etc...but the passanger side track rod came off in the normal unscrew way (Like the drivers side I'd already done) thinking someone must have forced this I tried the new "irish thread" track rod I bought and it seemed to be going in....
You can probably see were this is going...its gone in so far and jammed so the hole bar is now knackered...
I know its a common thing to replace it with heavy duty for off roaders, so hoping someone has one lying around!
I'm out of work at the moment and pennies are tight, but need the Disco on the road as we've been getting quite a bit of snow of late...
Hope someone can help us out......I'm in Bolton, Manchester!
Wish I'd never bothered, LOL?
Many thanks

  1. if you need to sraighten steering wheel you need to ensure tracking is correct (adjusted on rear track rod) then centralise steering box by using a pin through rear of drop arm up in to bottom of steering box, you can then adjust steering wheel, this means that when steering wheel is straight so is steering box, you can then adjust drag link(front bar)to set road wheels to steering wheel

Track rod has a RH threaded ball joint at each end, its the drag link that has a RH and LH threaded ball joint the LH being on the passenger side (N/S). It's the the drag link that's adjusted to reposition of the steering wheel.

Yeh I get that now, but still need a Rear Track Bar before I can start thinking obout getting the steering wheel strieght....going to go to a local landy Garage (Back streeet one) nice guy and see if he has one later....just in case nobody on here is local and has one...its the only Job I've ever done on it thats not gone well, so can't complain too much.....

Feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew....its all back together.....managed to get another RH thread Track End and got the LH Threaded one out.....the new one went in a lot easier! LOL You live and learn....and I have a new LH threaded one for the front arm as spare.....cheers again chaps....very missleading when looking up Track Rod ends and they sell LH and RH threaded togther as a pair....aye well.....I'll test drive tomoz and see how it is.....

OK chaps this is doing my head in...I've tracked the wheels as per other threads and got the steering wheel streight when travelling strieght but the Disco wants to go left! (more than just the camber in the road) i.e. when you turn right and let go of the steering wheel it spins back to centre (Well just over if anything), but when you turn left and let go it does not....and if when going strieght if you let go (safley) it pulls to the left!! All tyres and pressure are spot on even swapped wheels around and no differance!! Its a new steering box also.....what can it be??? When I changed the steering box all the shafts are KEYED but its like the steering box centre does not coinside with the steering or wheels...hope this makes sence...................

Having done some more reading I agree this could be a cause so Gonna check front Brakes tomoz, also found it could be rear end twisted somehow....so going to check all the "rods and jionts" back there too....so strange...
