hi all,

yet again another fault, last month was the water pump so it had a new pump, thermostat and good flush through. all fine since...

untill yesterday, it wouldnt start? it normalls starts straight away.
eventually after trying 4 or 5 times it did. she got about 10 miles and it lost power and died on a dual carridge way!
i got to it today and it started almost straight away, and i drove it back home tacking it very steady, as i entered my road i floored it in second and it spluttered?
i backed off and it was ok, i parked leaving it ticking over, i could hear the fuel pump ok,
if i press the brake then let go the pump gets a little faster then drops back to normal?
i then undid the fuel cap and it released alot more pressure than i would have expected? but it was the same, trying to rev it its now spluttering?
the engine temp is fine, all else fine.
its like the fuel pressure is low?

should i change the fuel filter 1st? and try it.
blocked injectors?

a few months ago it had new plugs, rotor arm & cap, also air filter.

is there a new uprated filter that goes in the pump housing?

thanks

:hysterically_laughi ffs lighten up... dummy spittin is optional here..... but after 4 replies to your thread.... you aint gonna make it in here.

If you didn't fit a new set of ignition leads when you replaced the cap and rotor arm then now would be a good time to do so.

It can't do any harm in cleaning out the petrol filter in the tank ( mine was full of black dust)
easy enough to get out - but a bit of a pain re fitting the locking ring, two pairs of hand would be good one to push down against the spring tension and one to turn the ring
try putting a dose of injector cleaner through the system.
When she is ticking over is she smooth ?
Is there any chance a plug lead is tracking or plug cap is US, again mine had a under power miss that was a breaking down plug & coil but seemed OK when cool
Hope this helps

I'm afraid the symptoms sound very similar , except for the non starting , to the ones I had when i'd had to replace the fuel pump in our 1.8 petrol ( i'm assuming yours is a petrol too ,you don't say ). I had removed the pump and replaced the encapsulated fuel filter but after refitting the problem persisted and I concluded that there was insufficient delivery from pump. I replaced the fuel pump with a new one , which was expensive , but after 15 months have never had a repeat.
I didn't check the fuel pressure or delivery ( should have ! ) but the RAVE disc states that the fuel pressure should be 3.5 bar , I'd check this first .
Good luck .

ok,
sorry guys i just needed a quick reply as i had to buy a cheep run around for her to use and the only thing i could get cheep anywhere near me was a 91 plate bm with no fukin door handles or locks and air suspension with a chav exhaust.

its a k series 1.8 crap engine which had the head gasket done by land rover 2 years ago with the uprated kit.

i changed the water pump and thermostat a month ago and its been sweet since, she drove home turned it off then the next day it wouldnt start!
10 mins later it starts and she gets 10 mile then it dies on a dual carridge way.
i get to it the next day and it starts first time and i drove home about 12 mile very gingerly, when i got the the bottom of my road i put it in second and floored it, it backed off spluttering. i eased off and crawled home, then it wouldnt tick over and now it wont start.
before it completely died i released the fuel cap but no difference.

i have fuel at good pressure in the fuel rail and a good spark at all the plugs.
the timing belt hasnt slipped
after trying to start it for 5 mins i pulled all the plugs out to see if they were wet, the right 2 were wet and the left 2 were dry?
the pistons are moving

im waiting to borrow my mates compresion tester but cant get it untill the weekend.

i find it hard to believe 2 injectors have failed at the same time
land rover say it cant be the immobiliser as the starter turns?

is the injector controll through the ecu?
if the compresion is ok has anyone got the readongs i need to test the throttle sensor and crank shaft sensor?

thanks

if you help me i will post a pic of my bitch bent over in her leather ok?
