Please help landy broken

please could anyone help, ive got a landrover discovery 1 r reg and she needs a new boot, not had her that long im devastated. problem is i dont know how to fix it or anyone who can.havent got pots of cash but can pay for any materials needed and a certain amount on labour ,me and my lad are more than willing to do any labouring on you.i can also offer building work or tattoo work in exchange for any work done on truck.thanks for reading. im in bry lancashire thanks again.

Head to the introduce yourself section first stick a location up and some pictures of how bad the rot is and you never know there might be someone near you that's more than happy to help.

Welcome to owning a Landy.

No. 1 rule... if buying an oldish vehicle... go over it VERY carefully looking for rust or rot. Especailly with Land Rover's .

Check your sills too - take off the pointless plastic covers. Chacnes are they're shot too.

Then take the rest of the carpet out, look at your wheel arches, floor pans, etc. start treating areas before the whole vehicle falls to bits.


Bear in mind you've just walked into a community, not read the "rules" and are asking for skilled people to fix your Landy for you... I apprecaite you've offered some services in return, but, work like this can cost several £100's at a garage, would take at least a whole day for someone to do, if not a whole weekend, don't expect everyone to look kindly on your mistake in not checking a vehicle over before buying it.

Best to add some pics, how far have you gone ? Have you lifted all the carpets ? Removed 6/7 seat ? Sill ok ??

You will need to introduce yourself in the intro section otherwise the lads will be aloong taking the p and demanding references, letter from your gran etc....... A

The poor unfortunate owner of this disco came over last night to show me the job - nice guy, not a nice car.

The car was bought from a car lot and MOT'd in April. This rot all round both rear body mounts, boot floor (within 8" of the seat belt mounts), sills and on the chassis by the rear anti roll bar mounts should have been seen by a blind mot tester let alone one with sight - it made me wonder if this car had been in the MOT station at all.

I hope he's taking it back for a refund.

The trouble is, he's had it a few weeks, he put his car in with cash and has already bought a new set of tyres - to replace the original ones that should have also failed an MOT if the spare is anything to go by.

Another one-post wonder after everything doing on the cheap!!

I think the lesson there is if (like me) you don't know that much about what you're getting into with an older motor is to consider taking your new vehicle for an MOT after you buy it for the sake of £40 or whatever it could save you a lot of heartache.

I'd be contacting the DVLA about the MOT test centre personally.

I know a lot of MOT centres will let things slip as a favour for friends, but, there is a difference between saying "your wheel bearing is on the way out, get it changed, here's your pass" and "the whole motor is a f**king death trap and shouldn't be driven, but, i've passed it for you anyway"

nice of him to pop back on any say summat tho when a member has helped him out (or at least given an opinion)

i would have to second that , but if its reported would vosa let him drive around as it has a current mot ?

an MOT isn't a certificate of the vehicle being roadworthy.

He could try at seller , and tell them he is going to appeal the MOT with VOSA , if its a car lot they will be using a "favourite" mot centre and might not want to risk the VOSA inspectors attention

Quite so BUT, after such a short time, the amount of faults and rot in this vehicle should have been picked up on the test.

Thats what he said was going to happen - contact the dealer and the mot station and "put his case across" on why he should get his money back.
