Hi all , So iv'e just had my first MOT !! not to good
Its my own fault I know, bought my disco 300 tdi from ebay without seeing it  Went with gut instinct ( worked well in the past ) I wouldn't really know what im looking at even if I did go to see it .:D

So it failed on

3 x seat belt anchorage prescribed area excessive corrosion
1 x front chasis corrosion effecting body mountings
2 x excessive play in anti roll bar

upper/lower bushes in rear shocks

track rod end dust covers

1 x wheel bearing excessive play

brakes spongy ( I have just replaced pads all round, so may just need bleeding ? )

battery insecure ( not looked at this yet )

So , not been given a price yet, mechanis said wont know how much until he removes plastics etc to see extent of welding needed

How much you reckon ball park for garage to do all this ?

I havnt really got time/knowledge to do my self

Or maybe just sell as spares repair , cut my losses,
Scrap value ?

Really don't know what to do at the moment so any advice would be really appreciated, must make my mind up by the weekend MOT runs out then
Thanks all:behindsofa:

Mmm days work I'd say depending on the extent of rust Mabie slightly more plus parts.

Did you replace the discs aswell as the pads ? If not the brakes may be spongy until the pads wear to the shape of the disks even if there is no air in the system

No I didnt replace discs, they looked ok , one had some corrosion around outside edge , the others ok.

Anyone want to take a stab at cost total ?

What would a garage charge for a days work ?

My last fail list from mot was bigger than that!
Its the welding that will cost you,do you know a mate that welds?.
The rest of it is fairly easy to do,plenty of good tutorial threads on here.
I reckon you should get yourself a few basic tools and get underneath the old girl!.
Any problems,just ask for advice!
Chin up, its a Land Rover!
:D

Spongey brakes could be linked to shagged wheel bearing, as for garage costs, well i reckon they will outweigh the cost of the motor but it depends on how old it is and whether you are planning on keeping it.

are you sure you dont want to have a stab at it, most of those jobs are p1ss easy to do with guidance and advice and a simple tool kit, the welding on the other hand is easy but time consuming and pricey to set yourself up in the first place unless you plan on having more Landies with rust in the future(thats all landies by the way)

i dont think the quote/guesstimate of £1500 is unfair IMO

That doesn't sound too bad a fail-anyone local for beer tokens and cash

I'd fix that. Mostly bit's n pieces, except for the chassis which will need welding.

It's mostly rubber bit that need replacing; getting some of the bolts undone is always fun!!!!

Fix it! We payed £1495 for ours recently, just shelled out £1229 at the local specialists and probably £150 in misc parts some of which are waiting to go on (I'm not including the expansion of my toolkit in that haha)
But like my In-Law says, she was ready to pay £6k for whatever new vehicle she went for and this way she is paying less than that for a car that once cost many times that!
(we have a top end 300tdi ES '98)

Get your arms grubby and your wallet open!

If the boot floor wants replacing, sounds like it if its 3 seatbelt mountsthen this is the best part of a day on its own then there's everything else it's going to be at least a grand so is it going to be worth it to you in the end ?

mine had way more welding than that took me weeks on and off with weather and work but passed today. must have put best part of 10 pound in metal on it. As for whee bearings look on the site how to change them. I done all mine the other day. easy to do. ony took ten mins a corner.
If you can find yourself a member who lives near you and pay them to do the work. I'd be more than happy to help but to far away sorry fella, good luck with it.

Ten minutes a corner :-o bloody hell it's takes me longer than that to take the wheels Off, but realisticly 30-45 minutes a corner is where I'm at for hub off clean remove old races and fit fresh bolt back together.
