I've bin told that if I put a thick plastic plate under me cubby box unstead of the ally plate then it will be an mot fail, also that anything other than metal for filling the floor in is also an mot fail.

Pity that because the half inch plastic sandwich plate is warmer than the ally and would help keep the sound out.:)

If thats true, you would have to be unlucky for the MOT to tap the centre plate to see what it was made of. Not exactly a structural member!

Tis true, I was advised on the pre mot to change it as it was within 12 inches of the seatbelt mounts.
the seat belt mounts are on the seats and the seat is bolted to the seat box and the plastic could be seen plainly from underneath, the nearside fkloor was plastic and that is also within 12 inches of the seatbelt mount.
Cant win can yer, should have undersealed the lot before I went.

sounds like ****e to me, it is an access panel and not a structural fitting as self tapper screws.
also ask your self if it's structural then how come my transmission tunnel is plastic and within 12 inches of a seat mounting -tossers

Stick a metal plate in and then your plastic one over the top. You'll get the sound deadening and insulation properties and it will be metal from underneath so your MOT bloke will have no argument. Personaly I think its bollox as well. My front floor plates are not even screwed down and it passed MOT just a few weeks ago.

Thing is, rules is rules and if there is no metal 12" from he mount...err hang on int it corrosion we is worried about ere.

My seat belts fasten to the seat and that seems to be the problem, I've put it back anyway (the plastic) as it's a great floor etc and sod em.

Just do what a lot of us do.

When the MOT comes along get all the grey area stuff uninstalled until the MOT is passed ;)

if he fails you- request an appeal form, watch the colour drain from his face... he must give you an appeal form if requested (dont take 'we havnt got any' excuse- they are available from his vts device.. ) good luck
