My car on thursday overheated. The previous weekend i did comple a 300 mile journey.I filled the coolant back up and it appears to be fine. Had a look a the engine and noticed on the right hand side under all the pipes is some pink residue like the coolant dye. This pink residue is goes around the gear box housing where the gasket is.

I fear its the head gasket. Mind you there aint no creamy stuff in the oil filler cap. If it needs a new gasket do i need to have it skimmed. my discovery is on an 02 plate.
I am hoping it isnt the gasket but my gut is saying it is.

Before you go taking the head off, you need to take the exhaust manifold off & check the core plug in the side of the head isn't leaking, could be a very easy fix, I have known these to leak, even had one come in that was only finger tight !!

What Evans says but also check the coolant hoses are not leaking. There are a couple of hoses for the heater and oil cooler that run behind the engine over the bell housing. Look for all the cheap and easy fixes before assuming the worst.

check the hose that runs from the top of the radiator, mine rubbed through but only leaked when hot. It it the big one one the right as you look at the engine from the front.
