Howdy,

Thinking about adding an aftermarket steering wheel now I have my slightly higher seats in. I did try a search first but nothing specific (with pics) came up.

Post your pics so I can decide which way to go :)

What you really need is a 14" 48 splines wheel bit like this
I am also after an alternative as mine does not have 48 splines!!! So will be interested to see what people have

I guessed it was!! Interested to see what's about I have another smaller wheel at home just the issue of removing the old wheel that's stopping me fitting it!!

Get a steering boss for the number of splines you have then just fit any size and shape wheel you want with the stud pattern. Loads to choose from.
Mine has a flat bottom so I can get in and out easier

That's what I'll do but want to see some for inspiration :) Halfords only have a small selection to go and see 'in the flesh' (or should that be in the faux leather)
 
Ill get you a pic tomorrow but ive got an OMP Targa deep dish fitted (only that because I bought it off a mate for £20) looking to get the flat wheel at some point.

Being suede its nice as its not a million degrees in the summer and it not ice cold in the winter. Plus it feels nice on the hands!

Bolt on Bits on ebay do a nice, if a little expensive, slimline boss. Loads of the cheap ones available are so bloody long the wheel is basically in your chest!

350mm Momo wheel on slim boss.




300mm Raid wheel on full depth boss and Snap-Off quick release adaptor (the distance to the stalks is very evident).

I've just shoved my RX8 seats in as per your helpful advice. I've also bought a Momo Quark 14' steering wheel because it is "d" shaped for ore leg room. Amother option os the Wildbear wheel from Timber Trail.

I finished wiring mine up this afternoon. Heated seats and power adjustment :)

Yep, I'll take a picture later. I was lucky enough to have the connectors (the ones that would normally stay in the rx8).

I probably did it wrong and I'm sure somebody will say so, so get further advice :)

Essentially, I took the 12v+ from the heater, lumbar support and motor and joined them so they were one. I also used a common ground which went to chassis. Both of these went to the correct pins of a relay. The other two posts of the relay went to the auxiliary fuse box and one to a switch input next to my hazard light switch. I used an ignition live for that so the switch. It illuminates so visible but I didn't want to run the risk of it being left on when I get out the car.

I've only done drivers side. But it will be a similar process for the passenger which only has the heated seat function. I may not even wire that in.

Ah a relay. What type and did put a fuse inline between the relay and the power? I found an amp diagram of these seats and they're 120amps! I can't quite grasp why the wires are such small gauge though. I can't believe how comfy these seats are they really transform the ride too since they hold you in place rather than rolling around on top of the originals.
Any pics and further tips would be great.

Yeah, the fuse is at the auxiliary fuse box end. Here is a pic, not great or the neatest job. As always, it has started as a test/temporary thing bit of wiring...

Here is a generic diagram. Obviously just replace the fogs for the seat, I used a 20a fuse and used an ignition live for the other side of the switch along with ground for the LED backlight.

I think I get you, so the switch will only be live with the ignition turned on and to move the seat you need to flick the switch to on which will simultaneously heat the seat whilst you move it too? Makes sense actually since you'll rarely need to shift the seat and just turn off the heater once you're toasy.

Yep, exactly that. I was thinking about movement permanently wired but then thought about how often I'll actually use it. Was simpler to just wire it all up to the switch.
