Hi guys

i have a d2 td5 with road tyres on 18" alloys, but it doesn't hold the road very well when cornering in the wet, also i went to the local tip this morning with my very light trailer and although i was on a corncrete floored yard it was a bit greasy and the disco wheel span everywhere at very low revs menovering and reversing the trailer into a bay ( auto ), atm i have nexen roadian hp tyres fitted 255 x 55 x 18 and was thinking at a later date fitting grabber at2s but after what happened today at the tip i am thinking should i fit off road tyres instead, in the past i have done trips to the tip with my s11a swb with the same trailer on and same conditions and never had a prob and that was in rear wheel drive, so would like to know what off road tyres do others fit to there d 2s and pics if poss.

I have Grabber AT2's on my 04 D2 but on 16" rims and never had any trouble on roads, gravel, mud or snow (except when the snow was level with the bonnet) and it's towed 2 1/2 ton across a wet muddy field and never spun a wheel.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos but it looks good and I don't notice any road noise from them.
 
think you might struggle for anything with more off road bias than grabbers with your tyre size but that said they are supoosed to be a very good tyre and seem to be highly rated on here.
 
I have 18" Grabbers AT2s (255/55/18) on my Td5 and they are ace. I'll take some photos and post them on here.

There is a very very slight increase in road noise (4x4 tyre hum) but that's ok.
 
Grabber AT2's are the way to go.

I've got 255/55R18's on my DII and they're excellent in mud, snow, etc...

They're also pretty good on the road (I don't think they're particularly noisy)

I have grabber AT2's fitted to my disco 2 and it sticks to the road. And looks the muts nuts. Sorry about the size of the pictures,haven't mastered this uploading pictures thing yet.

The grabber AT2s are really good, i fitted them to a Nissan x-trail i had a few years ago. The farther in law has the car now and he ploughs accross fields with it and has never got stuck. They do hum a little but no big problem.

Wolfydave, your Disco looks very nice in the black. Thats my favourite colour, but it would just look so dirty all the time where I live.

As has been said, Grabbers are about all youve got in an 18" rim.
They,re great tyres, with some good write ups.
I have BFG at,s on mine, which are a very similar tyre, and they have been excellent both on road and off !.

Wolfydave has " probably " got the best number plate in the world !!!.

It depends of what off-road tyres means for you... I use Grabbers only for tarmac and long-road trips on the summer. Tryed them harder once in the spring and see the results... that day I ordered the KL71's(camskill) and still use them most of the year with no issues,including 2,7 tones trailer towing. For the winter, of course winter tyres(Yokohama IT), AT2's are a joke...

235/70/16 BFG Mud Terrain.......quite smooth ride on road too.....they have Q factor that means up to 140km/h (i dont think that's a speed to go on muddy fields;))

Hi Del, We have farmers fields out the back of us so the dust flies everywhere. She gets washed every other day and waxed once a week. Had her looking stunning one sunday after i took her offroad,mud all the way up both sides upto the roofline. Was a brilliant 2hrs of playing,cleaning her afterwards was a pain tho.

With all due respect....i have the 7J x 16 wheels and i followed the indication from RAVE for these. The 255/65 are recommended for 8J x 16. Anyway, in spite of some theory i've observed that in mud it's better to use narrow tyres and since i've put these even the PAS is more "relaxed". I'm driving a lot between rice paddyes.......if u know what i mean;)
