Has anyone got a genius way of having a phone/iPad in the front of an FL1 (pre facelift). Just wondering what solutions people have come up with.

Or if any of the 4x4 aftermarket companies have a bespoke holder unique to suit this model/dashboard?

How about above your head in the sleeve of the sun visor. Out of the way of prying eyes and the police. Most smartphones are voice activated and SMS messages can be set up to audio.

The best solution I came up with was aftermarket stereo with bluetooth, and a USB cable plugged into the phone in the armrest box. If you come up with an idea for something gucci, send me some sketches and details of your phone and I'll knock it up in CAD and send you the STL files to get it 3d printed.

When I installed my parrot unit I ended up getting a Brodit holder. It sits behind the Aircon vent in a semi haphazard fashion but it actually doesn't feel like it's aching to fall off. There's not likely enough room between the driver's door and the instrument shroud for an iPad but for my phone it's just right. Power provided by the cigarette lighter with a cable that's been stretched up and over just behind the steering column.

Up to you if that is nice enough and buyer beware; no idea if Brodit do more than one holder

While mine is a facelift I'm almost certain that the vents are identical across both editions

Top of dash between speedo binnacle and airbag.

On pre facelift, it replaces a really useful storage area for toot.
Photo grabbed from Google, but same era as mine. Only cup holder is bottom right of the image on the door bin..... not so ideal for a phone. Was wondering is someone had designed a bracket that fitted the tray above the stereo/vents in the middle of the dash. Would be ideal when using a phone for Navigation such as Google Maps.

But alas, it seems there isn't really all that much out there for the FL1 :(

That's where the optional cup holders fit.

My parts car had the optional cup holders that I'd removed. So while on a fishing trip, and stopped for coffee in Geraldine on my way to Twizel, I fitted them...

They lasted about a day before I realised I preferred having a place for junk.

Its now siting on the damp molding floor of my parts car. If you fancy a visit, you can have it.

However, I wouldn't recommend it (even though they are sought after by people who don't have them).

I'd recommend that you do away with the stereo, as you'll play music on your phone anyway, and get one of these...

You might even find 1 with a proper phone holder and charger.
