Petrol to Diesel

Just out of interest.....

I have a 1.8 petrol freelander but its absolutly S**TE at pulling owt over a tonne.. Up hills in first gear, total rubish.. But the body work is spot on.. Looks really nice.. So would it be a ball ache to fit it with a diesel engine instead? I know the ecu and all that would have to be changed and the fuel tank flushed.. But what else would be involved.. Its A 2003 freelander kalahari hardback..

Yes, it would be a pain in the arse and you'd have to change all the wiring too. Given that your 1.8 gaylander is probably worth bugger all anyway, you would be better off buying a TD4.

That said, when I had a TD4 it still performed poorly when pulling half a tonne, especially during braking. Could definitely feel it on the back.

ahha not really - compared to when i had my td4 with a synergy on full wack and a heavy right foot.

im only doing another £10 a week in fuel

no need to floor it now with the 3.0 Litre engine

although with the horse trailer is was only doing 12MPG lol still better than a freelander as it wouldnt even be able to pull it in the first place

need to get some pics of the inside but here's one of the engine bay

- a dream to work on the engine ( the freelander td4 was nice to work on)

loads of space around all the components - just everything is just a bit bigger ! LOL
