Does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of a new (or good) change over switch for a twin tank (military) series 3 petrol. I've been quoted £110 (plus special order postage) by my local 4x4 specialists and this seems a bit steep.

I have checked ebay and not had any luck.

Failing this, does anyone know whether these things can be 'reconditioned'. As a military spec vehicle, this bit doesn't appear in the Haynes manual. Mine's not too bad, but it's weeping a little, and as far as I'm concerned, any amount of petrol spillage is 'too much'.

don't think the pump sucks, it blows. The inlet side is fed by gravity and the pressure depends only on the level of the fuel in the tank (i.e. the "head"). So, it don't make no difference how many or how big the tanks are.

if u do decide to use a tee or y piece, then obviously make sure its petrol resistant material.

bollocks!
unless you happened to have rolled yer series

thanks for the advice guys. on reflection, I have decided to fit a non military rear tank with an external filler. this will dispense with the funny stares i get at petrol stations as I disappear into the car with the fuel filler, as well as letting me fit comfy seats.

Well, if you've decided to change to a rear mounted tank, that will solve your problem. However, if you could find a change-over tap cheaply enough that would be cheaper still. I converted my civvie Series II to twin tanks (for an expedition to the Sahara that has yet to happen, 7 years after planning it!!), and got my tap pretty cheaply. I can't remember where from, but it would have been from Craddock, Paddock, Bearmach or Dunsfold or somewhere like that. Failing that, you could always try salvage. I think Craddock still do some.

If you could remove the tap easily, why not try to take it apart? They are not complex bits of kit, and you're probably only looking at replacing a fibre washer or something. This would be the cheapest option of all!!

Let us know how it works out.

Effortless.
